Julia Mainwaring

Originally from Chapel Hill, Mainwaring played at East Chapel Hill High and was a four-year varsity member, three-year starter, two-year captain, and two-time all-conference member as a setter and outside hitter. She played one season at William Peace University as a libero, setter, and opposite before transferring to Elon University. While at Elon she was a member and Vice President of the women’s club volleyball program, where her team finished ninth at the 2015 NCVF National Championships. Mainwaring graduated Magna Cum Laude from Elon with a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Event Management.

Mainwaring is currently the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Guilford College in Greensboro. She primarily leads recruitment and student-athlete development for the NCAA Division III program, and has directed camps at Saint Mary’s, Northwest Guilford, and Northern Guilford high schools, as well as on campus clinics. She helped lead the 2019 team to its best season since 1993 with an overall record of 19-8 and an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) record of 9-3. The team advanced to the ODAC semifinals for the first time since 1997, with three players earning all-ODAC honors. In 2016, Guilford finished fifth in conference play and advanced to its first ODAC Tournament since 2012. Under her guidance eight student-athletes have earned All-ODAC honors, while the program has earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for four consecutive seasons.

Since arriving at Triangle, Mainwaring has coached countless camps, clinics, and club teams. While in college she was a resource coach and led Triangle summer camps and Town of Cary programming. She has been an assistant and most recently a head coach for national teams at the 13’s, 14’s, and 15’s levels. Over the years her teams have won numerous tournaments including Carolina Region championships, AAU Grand Prix events, and JVA’s Charm City Challenge.
